PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A man that was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a female in 2004 has been detained and brought back to Pittsburgh to face charges.

According to the FBI in Pittsburgh, Moshe Jurno allegedly sexually assaulted a 15-year-old female in September of 2004. Following his arrest in Dormont, Journo posted bond, was released and fled the country, according to authorities.

Journo, who is of Israeli descent, fled to Israel. With the cooperation of the local, state, federal and international law enforcement partners, Journo was arrested and detained by Israeli authorities on rape charges.

The 53-year-old man was meet by special agents with the FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force and deputies from the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office who traveled to Israel to extradite Journo back to Pittsburgh.

“The FBI remains steadfast in searching for individuals trying to avoid prosecution,” said Special Agent in Charge Robert Jones. “This case is an excellent example of how teamwork among local and international law enforcement agencies, including the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office, Allegheny County Police and Dormont Police are vital to ensuring criminals are tracked down and prosecuted. We will use all of our resources to find you.”

According to a criminal complaint dating back to May 2006, Journo allegedly raped the unidentified teenager in a tanning salon located in Dormont.

KDKA’s Ralph Iannotti reports that the plane carrying Journo and law enforcement officials has landed in Pittsburgh Thursday evening shortly after 9:30 p.m.

PITTSBURGH (AP/KDKA) — A judge has denied bail for an Israeli man who fled the country after being accused of raping a teenage girl in Dormont back in 2004.

Journo was remanded to the Allegheny County Jail following his extradition to the United States.

On Friday morning, his bail was denied, the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office reported.

Authorities say Journo sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl at his tanning parlor in Dormont in 2004. After he was released on bond, authorities say he fled the country and remained at large until he was arrested by Israeli police in December 2017.

“The victim’s frustration over this. She was a very young girl,” said Allegheny County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Kevin Kraus. “I understand she thought we might have forgot about her, we forgot about this case, and I just want to assure you that the law enforcement community in this region did not.”

The 53-year-old Journo appealed his extradition. But FBI agents and Allegheny County sheriff’s officers traveled to Israel this week to get him.

“It involves the legal attachés, the FBI agents in those offices, the State Department is a huge part, and then those host countries’ law enforcement authorities, in this case the Israeli National Police. So all those people are working together,” said Special Agent in Charge Robert Jones.

It’s not clear if he’s retained an attorney. He’s facing state charges.

Journo will be held in the Allegheny County Jail.

DORMONT (KDKA) — Police officers are searching for the suspect in two recent robberies in Dormont.

Officials said the man in the photo is a suspect in a gas station robbery on Tuesday and a movie theater robbery on Wednesday.

The man walked into the Hollywood Theater around 6 p.m. and approached 17-year-old Ian Spottiswood, who works at the theater’s ticket and concession counters.

“The guy walks in, walks really fast, has one hand in his pocket, slides a note on the counter and the next thing I know I’m giving him my money, very scary,” Spottiswood said.

Spottiswood said the note had instructions.

“You’re being robbed, don’t make any sudden movements,” Spottiswood said. “And then he said, ‘Give me everything in the register.'”

It was a quiet night at the theater, just a few customers and no other employees.

The robber also asked for Spottiswood’s cell phone for the time, and the police dusted the phone for prints.

Ian’s friend who has a job up the street came running over.

“You realize anything could happen at any time,” said Noah Goisse.

While there were no surveillance cameras inside the theater, there were at the Exxon on West Liberty Avenue.

The gas station caught a picture of the suspect.

Spittiswood said the man who robbed the gas station is the same man who robbed the theater.

“I had no idea what was in his pocket,” Spottiswood said. “All I know is his hand was in there, and this was the safest thing that could have happened.”

Woman Raises Neighbors’ Spirits With Dormont CoronaChoir

DORMONT (KDKA) — Amy Constantine Kline is new to Dormont. She just moved to the neighborhood in January.

Being the new kid on the block hasn’t stopped her from uniting the neighbors though.

As everyone is sheltering inside and keeping a social distance, Kline started a movement, getting people outside to sing at the same time.

“When I got the first 100 likes, I thought, that’s cool. That’s what it will be,” Kline told KDKA’s Heather Abraham.

But the Facebook page, called Dormont CoronaChoir, gained momentum. People from other neighborhoods joined in, some asking for dancing to be added.

Since the page and choir was initiated, many of the songs have a way of connecting people to what’s going on.

“Imagine All the People” by John Lennon, “Living on A Prayer” by Bon Jovi, and “Do You Hear the People Sing” from Les Miserables are just a few the group has performed.

“‘Do you Hear the People Sing’ will stand out to me for the long haul. The odd appropriateness of the lyrics with what we’re all going through, will continue to be in my head,” said Kline.

Last week, Amy heard about some of her coworkers getting laid off. She knows that people have been impacted in different ways by the coronavirus. She’s hoping that even if just for a few minutes, people will feel connected and hopeful.

“This has been, at least for me, a good distraction and I hope that it’s the same for others, that they realize they’re not alone in this,” she said.

The birthday girl sat outside on a chair with balloons tied to it, holding a sign that said “Let’s party like it’s 1920.” Friends and family drove by, honking their horns.

“It makes me feel wonderful that all you people would take the time to come over,” Ruth said. “Thank you very much, all of you.”
